Berries: Brain Food

Berries are rich in antioxidants, the miracle fighters of free radicals. We need these antioxidants to fight the aging (oxidation) process, and to stay alive in the face of constant threats to our health.

Berries broadcast their health value with their deep purples, blues, and blacks, which come from the polyphenols known as anthocyanins (including malvidin) and anthocyanidins. They’re also rich in dimethyl resveratrol and dozens of other phytochemicals, amino acids, coenzymes, and co-compounds that have yet to be discovered by science and are more plentiful and bioavailable in berries than in any other food.

Berries have hidden compounds that stop excess adrenaline from causing damage to organs. This makes blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, elderberries, schisandra berries, and the like critical for life on earth. Wild berries, especially, pack an anti-aging, disease-fighting, life-giving punch. And wild blueberries are in a league of their own.

Berries are true brain food. Not only are they B12-enhancing; they have the power to help with stains on the brain—lesions, gray areas, calcifications, heavy metal deposits, white spots, scar tissue, crystallizations, and adhesions created by damaged, expanded blood vessels. Berries also help with all brain disorders and diseases, including brain cancer, ALS, Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, stroke, aneurysm, migraines, and any neurological symptoms or conditions.

Berries help protect heart valves and ventricles and remove plaque by dissolving hardened fat deposits within veins and arteries. Berries are also helpful for fertility.

How To Use:
Graze on berries, eat them with raw honey drizzled on top, in smoothies, fruit bowls, fruit ice cream, salads, and dressings.

Licorice Root: Critical Pathogen Fighter

Licorice root is the ultimate anti-bug weapon against the pathogen explosion. Herpetic bugs (including Epstein-Barr, HHV-6, cytomegalovirus, and shingles) are so often behind mystery illnesses such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, Ménière’s disease, and adrenal fatigue, as well as symptoms such as vertigo, dizziness, body aches and pains, and nerve pains in the jaw, neck, shoulder—not to mention autoimmune conditions. The body does not attack itself; strains and mutations of these herpes family bugs do—which is why we need a potent ant-bug weapon on our side.

The phytochemicals and anti-pathogenic properties of licorice stop a bug from procreating and at the same time push the bug out of the body, making your system as inhospitable as possible for bugs that want to take up residence there.

Licorice root is incredible for people with low blood pressure, and it helps soothe the liver by lowering liver heat.

Licorice is the most important adrenal restorative we have today. Licorice root acts like a battery charger for the adrenals: it brings them out of a fatigued state and increases their capacity to function to your advantage.

Note that there are conflicting views out there about licorice, including many misconceptions. Try not to get drawn into the negatives—you will be cheated out of healing.

How To Use:

You can use licorice as an alcohol-free tincture or as an herbal tea. You can refer to Medical Medium Cleanse To Heal for specific supplement and dosage recommendations for over 200 symptoms and conditions, many of which include amounts for licorice tincture and/or tea. You can visit the Medical Medium Supplement Directory for the specific high-quality products I prefer.

Ginger: Healing Food

Ginger is the ultimate antispasmodic and helps us be less reactive. Ginger’s antispasmodic properties come from its more than 60 trace minerals, well over 30 amino acids (many of them undiscovered), and more than 500 enzymes and coenzymes all working together to calm reactivity.

Ginger is an amazing relaxant for the throat area and also helps relieve tension headaches and flush excess lactic acid from muscle tissue into the bloodstream and out of the body.

Ginger promotes a healthy immune system and is antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic.

Ginger is very helpful for stress assistance, DNA reconstruction, enhancement of your body’s production of B12, and much more.

How To Use:

Enjoy ginger in Medical Medium Turmeric Ginger Shots recipe, fresh juices, Medical Medium Ginger Water, Medical Medium Healing Broth (recipes on the blog), grated onto salads or any meal, or cooked into your favorite dishes. A cup of ginger tea can calm an upset stomach and relax any other areas of tension for up to 12 hours.

Cat's Claw: Life-Changing Herb

Cat’s claw is one of the most powerful resources for helping to reverse the epidemic of chronic and mystery illness in the 21st century. Cat’s claw can aid in alleviating almost any symptom, from neurological to digestive.

Cat’s claw helps eliminate the parasite Babesia and bacteria such as Bartonella and other bugs without the so-called Herxheimer die-off reaction so common with antibiotics, because the bioactive pharma-compounds in the herb regulate the destruction of pathogens so that it’s at a level the individual person can tolerate.

Cat’s claw is also incredible at fighting viruses. Eventually medical research will discover a group of antiviral adaptogens, and scientists will realize that cat’s claw is at the top of that list.

This herb is a powerful aid for battling PANDAS (pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections), ALS, strep throat, MS, mystery aches and pains, and more.

Cat’s claw is also remarkable for its ability to help rid the body of the infamous strep, which is frequently misdiagnosed as yeast or Candida.

Take a bottle of cat’s claw tincture with you as part of your emergency kit when you’re traveling. Over the course of your trip, when you can remember, take small doses of the tincture. It’s a wonderful tool to protect your immunity and help guard against malaria and bacterial infections.

How To Use:
Cat’s Claw can be taken as a liquid tincture (look for alcohol-free as alcohol cancels out the beneficial effects of the herb) or drink it as a tea. You can refer to the Medical Medium Directory for preferred supplements and teas that are high-quality. Check out Cleanse To Heal for exact supplement and dosage recommendations for over 200 symptoms and conditions.

For more information on the healing properties of cat’s claw and which symptoms and conditions it can help with, check out the New York Times best-selling book, Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods: Save Yourself and the Ones You Love with the Hidden Healing Powers of Fruits & Vegetables, and the other books in the Medical Medium series.

Garlic: Life-Changing Food

Garlic is antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal (including anti-mold), anti-parasitic, and rich in the phytochemical allicin, a sulfur compound that prevents disease.

Garlic kills off pathogens such as viruses and unproductive bacteria, which are behind so many mystery and chronic illnesses and symptoms.

Garlic helps fight colds, flus, strep throat, pneumonia-causing bacteria, and viral-related cancers.

Garlic extracts toxic heavy metals in the colon and gives you a powerful immune boost.

How To Use:

Although roasting or otherwise cooking garlic is delicious and valuable, garlic is most effective when consumed raw. Try mixing raw garlic into your favorite dips, salad dressings, chilled soups, juices, and other dishes. It’s great minced fresh onto salads, steamed vegetables, or any other recipe you enjoy. You can also sip on the Medical Medium Turmeric Ginger Shots recipe, which also contain garlic, for wonderful immune-boosting support.

For more information on the healing properties of garlic and which symptoms and conditions it can help with, check out the New York Times best-selling book, Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods: Save Yourself and the Ones You Love with the Hidden Healing Powers of Fruits & Vegetables, and the other books in the Medical Medium series.

Steamed Artichokes with Two Dipping Sauces

Artichokes are one of the most healing vegetables on this planet. When steamed, they retain most of their nutrients and make a delicious and healing snack or meal. In this recipe, you’ll find two tasty options to enjoy with your artichokes: Mustard Maple Dipping Sauce and Zucchini Herb Dipping Sauce. This recipe comes from the Revised and Expanded Edition of Medical Medium.

Artichokes contain phytochemical compounds that stop the growth of tumors and cysts inside the liver. The liver relies on other chemical compounds found in artichokes for many of its own chemical functions—they work hand in hand to keep the liver’s neutralization, screening, and filtering abilities strong.

Steamed Artichokes with Two Dipping Sauces

Ingredients:

  • 4 artichokes
  • 1 lemon, cut in half

MUSTARD MAPLE DIPPING SAUCE

  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped parsley

ZUCCHINI HERB DIPPING SAUCE

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped zucchini
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 garlic clove
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup loosely packed herbs, such as dill, parsley, thyme, and/or chives

Directions:

To prepare the artichokes, use a knife to carefully slice off the top quarter of each artichoke as well as the end of each stem. Use scissors to cut off the tips of the artichoke leaves to remove the thorns. Rub the whole artichoke immediately with the cut lemon.

Place a steaming basket in a large pot filled with water until it reaches the basket. Place the prepared artichokes in the basket and cover. Bring to a boil and steam until the artichoke leaves can be removed by gently pulling. This should take about 30 to 40 minutes depending on the size of the artichokes.

To make the Mustard Maple Dipping Sauce, whisk together all the ingredients in a small bowl. Serve immediately.

To make the Zucchini Herb Dipping Sauce, combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

Once the artichokes have slightly cooled, peel off the leaves, dip them in your dressings, and nibble the “meat” from the base of each leaf. Next, scrape off the choke from each artichoke and enjoy the hearts.

Tips:

When you’re choosing between water and Healing Broth for the ingredients, keep in mind that the broth will produce a richer flavor. Store-bought vegetable stock isn’t called for because it’s very difficult to find a variety that’s free of oil, salt, natural flavors, and/or other additives. For convenience, make a batch of Healing Broth in advance and freeze it (consider ice cube trays for easy thawing) so you have it on hand for recipes like this.

Makes 1-2 servings

Bananas: Digestive Aid

Bananas contain bioavailable protein, beneficial omegas, fiber, water, antioxidants, and healing phytochemicals such as potassium. High-potassium foods such as banana are extremely helpful for many digestive system conditions. Potassium is helpful for nerve function in the digestive tract.

Bananas are also anti-pathogenic, and they’re an incredible prebiotic as well— meaning, for one, that at the same time they help destroy and eliminate unproductive bacteria in the gut by binding onto it, they feed beneficial microorganisms there. Bananas also don’t feed pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Pathogens are behind many digestive conditions and symptoms, along with many other chronic illnesses. Bananas have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.⁣

⁣Bananas soothe the intestinal tract. They have a “walk on water” quality that I call the Jesus Effect. This speaks to the way they move along the intestinal tract without touching the intestinal lining. The chemical compounds in banana become a film-like shield between the banana and the lining of the intestinal tract. While the nutrients in the banana (and other foods in the gut at the same time) can pass through the shield and absorb into your intestinal lining, as the banana breaks down, it doesn’t rub on the intestinal lining. Its chemical compound coats and soothes the lining like a healing ointment.⁣

⁣Bananas are also anti-spasmodic and can alleviate gastric cramps & stress-related gastrointestinal disorders⁣

Bananas are best digested when they are mostly yellow, have some firmness, with small brown dots on skin.⁣

Raspberry Leaf - Life-Changing Herb

Raspberry leaf is the ideal reproductive system reorganizer and protector. It’s also an overall hormonal balancer and supports the entire endocrine system in hormone output.

Raspberry leaf brewed as tea is one of the most profound tonics to address infertility and prepare a woman’s body for pregnancy. It is useful to help prevent miscarriages, and it is a secret tool to address exhaustion following childbirth and postpartum depression.

Raspberry leaf is known to enhance production of breast milk. What doesn’t get attention is that raspberry leaf also fortifies the mother’s milk with vitamins and minerals, making it more nutritious for baby.

Raspberry leaf is also beneficial for men, mostly as a blood cleanser and overall detoxifier.

For anybody, raspberry leaf’s phytochemicals, including antioxidant compounds such as anthocyanins and polyphenols, make it an all-purpose anti-inflammatory, specifically for the organs and glands.

This herb is also amazing for those with iron deficiencies, helps grow hair when needed, and because it helps strengthen the pancreas, those who are dealing with pancreatitis can do very well on this herb.

How To Use:

Raspberry leaf is best consumed as a tea. Make a cup of raspberry leaf tea if you feel a low point in the day. It can help take the edge off. For the most profound effect of restoring the reproductive system and balancing hormones, make a tea with raspberry leaf and nettle leaf together. You can read about amounts of tea to drink for reproductive issues in Cleanse To Heal.

Lemon Balm: A Life-Changing Herb

Lemon balm, also known as Melissa officinalis, is an essential herb for calming the nerves—in particular, those involved with digestion. Nerves play a role in much of the digestive distress we experience in this day and age. If someone’s stomach or intestines are irritated for no identifiable reason, it’s usually due to sensitive nerves.

Lemon balm has soothing properties that make it a gift from God and Mother Nature to deal with our frazzling world. It has bioactive phytochemicals such as undiscovered alkaloids that calm the nerve receptors at the digestive tract so that the nerves become less sensitized and inflammation reduces. This makes lemon balm a valuable herb for stress assistance.

Lemon balm helps countless health problems, with a high contribution factor to almost every part of the body.

Extremely high in trace minerals such as boron, manganese, copper, chromium, molybdenum, selenium, and iron, lemon balm also has large amounts of the macromineral silica.

Lemon balm is a B12-conserving herb—which means that it monitors your stores of this vitamin and keeps your body from using it all up.

Anti-parasitic, antiviral, and antibacterial throughout the body, lemon balm helps fight the Epstein-Barr virus, shingles, and other herpetic bugs such as HHV-6, which are behind countless chronic illnesses, symptoms, and conditions.

Lemon balm is an amazing herb for tonsillitis, which is inflammation caused by strep bacteria.

Lemon balm detoxifies the liver, spleen, and kidneys, and helps reduce bladder inflammation, which makes it a star for helping to alleviate interstitial cystitis and urinary tract infections (UTIs).

How To Use:

Lemon balm is most therapeutic when taken as an alcohol-free tincture or as herbal tea. Check out Cleanse To Heal for specific supplement and dosage recommendations for over 200 symptoms and conditions.

Cilantro - Life Changing Food

Cilantro, also called coriander and Chinese parsley, is the go-to herb for heavy metal detoxification. The brain draws up precious mineral salt compounds from cilantro with a surprise package attached: phytochemicals that deliberately remove toxic heavy metals from the brain, freeing up neurons from toxic heavy metal oxidized residue, so that they can function at their best.

Cilantro is also very valuable for extracting heavy metals and other toxins from other body systems and organs, particularly the liver. In fact, it’s an amazing liver detoxifier in its own right.

It’s one of the best adrenal support herbs, too, and wonderful for balancing blood glucose levels and staving off weight gain, brain fog, and memory issues.

Cilantro is also antiviral—cilantro helps keep down levels of the Epstein-Barr virus, shingles, HHV6, cytomegalovirus (CMV), and other herpetic viruses in all their various forms, as well as HIV.

It’s also antibacterial; it helps to fight off virtually every form of bacteria and flush its waste from your body, and it’s also anti-worm.

How To Use:

For best results, incorporate fresh cilantro into your meals multiple times a day. You can juice some along with fresh vegetables, fruits, and leafy greens, put a handful in a smoothie, add it to a chopped salad, soup, salsa, or guacamole. The more cilantro you use, the more benefits it will bring. One of the best ways to consume it is in the Medical Medium Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie so you can safely and effectively remove as many metals as possible. It’s ideal to drink this smoothie daily.

For more information on the healing properties of cilantro, including the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits, and which symptoms and conditions it can help with, check out the New York Times best-selling book, Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods: Save Yourself and the Ones You Love with the Hidden Healing Powers of Fruits & Vegetables, and the other books in the Medical Medium series.
